Coverage: Portugal · Update frequency: Every 15-30 minutes · Format: JSON
Overview
IPMA (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera) issues official weather warnings for Portugal. Warnings cover severe weather phenomena including strong wind, heavy rain, extreme temperatures, snow, fog, and thunderstorms.
How Sentinela Uses This Data
We display active warnings by district on the map. Districts are colored according to the highest warning level active (yellow, orange, red). Clicking a district shows all active warnings with their validity periods and descriptions.
Data Processing
Warning data is fetched every 15 minutes from the IPMA API. We aggregate warnings by district and determine the highest active warning level for map coloring.
Limitations & Considerations
Warnings are specific to Portugal mainland and islands. Warning boundaries follow administrative districts, which may not precisely match weather patterns. Updates may take 15-30 minutes to appear.
