Aurora Forecast

Coverage: Northern & Southern Hemisphere · Update frequency: Every 30 minutes · Format: JSON/Text

Overview

NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center provides aurora forecasts based on solar wind measurements and geomagnetic models. The forecast shows the probability of visible aurora at different latitudes.

How Sentinela Uses This Data

Aurora probability is displayed as a color overlay for both northern and southern hemispheres. Higher probabilities (shown in brighter colors) indicate better chances of seeing the aurora.

Data Processing

We fetch the 30-minute aurora forecast from SWPC every 30 minutes. The forecast data is rendered as an overlay showing aurora oval position and intensity.

Limitations & Considerations

Aurora visibility depends heavily on local weather (clear skies required), light pollution, and exact timing. The forecast shows statistical probability, not guaranteed viewing.
