Overview
IPMA operates a network of over 200 weather stations across Portugal that report accumulated rainfall. This data provides ground-truth precipitation measurements for the country.
How Sentinela Uses This Data
Weather stations are displayed as markers on the map, colored by rainfall amount. Clicking a station shows detailed information including 1-hour, 6-hour, and 24-hour accumulation totals.
Data Processing
We fetch station data every 10 minutes from the IPMA API. Rainfall values are color-coded from green (light) through yellow and orange to red (heavy).
Limitations & Considerations
Coverage is limited to Portugal. Some remote areas have sparse station coverage. Station data represents point measurements and may not capture localized heavy rain between stations.
